Salt Lake City Events

Famous for hosting the annual Sundance Film Festival, Salt Lake City, Utah is also home to several other events and festivals. Festivals provide an opportunity for city visitors and residents to gather and experience Salt Lake City culture and celebrate the city's love of the arts, family and fun.

Utah State Fair

The Utah State Fair is an annual event that takes place in September. The event begins the Thursday after Labor Day and continues over the course of 10 days. Fair events include a horse show and a rodeo, as well as a pig race and sea lion show. In addition, there are games and family contest opportunities. The festival also features live entertainment including several musical performances, comedy, juggling and hypnosis. As of September 2010, admission prices range from $7 to $9. Attendees can also purchase ride and season passes at additional cost.

Utah Arts Festival

The Utah Arts Festival is an annual event that takes place over the course of four days in June. The festival began in 1976 and is the largest outdoor multi-disciplinary art event in the state. Over 80,000 people attend the event in the city's Artist Marketplace. The festival includes live performances on five stages, a street theater, an art exhibition and a film festival. The event also includes food and vendors, as well as hands-on arts and crafts areas for children and teenagers. In addition to its creative events, the Utah Arts Festival also hosts a 5K race. As of September 2010, admission to the festival is free for children 12 and under and $5 to $10 for all others.

Salt Lake City International Jazz Festival

Every July, rain or shine, Salt Lake City hosts the Salt Lake International Jazz Festival. Established in 1991, the festival features three to four days of performances from jazz artists from around the world. Past performers have included Sheila E., Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, Lalah Hathaway, Nancy Wilson and Chuck Mangione. Attendees can also purchase items and food from festival vendors. As of September 2010, ticket prices range from $16 for a day pass to $30 for a three-day pass. Attendees can also get access to reserved seating for an additional fee.
